Our Friends - In Need

Louisiana Fishermen are an integral part of the state's culture. Whether they are Cajun, Vietnamese, Croatian, or Yugoslavian, they all help to make up the “Cultural Gumbo” of this great state. They are very much like those who make up other fishing communities around the world. They are honest, proud, hardworking people. They treasure the simple things in life and are, in fact, our nation's treasure.

Friends of the Fishermen is the officially recognized fund of the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board and created as a way to help Louisiana's fishermen in their greatest time of need (see Mission Statement.) We ask you to join us in unified support as we collectively call upon our friends and neighbors, corporations, foundations, and both non-governmental and governmental organizations to do their part.

Our fishermen need your help. Their products help to create the amazing cuisine that puts Louisiana restaurants and chefs on the map; their fishing communities drive our unique culture. Our fishermen are unable to do the thing they love most: fish. Please help support our fishermen by making a contribution. Your generosity will directly help sustain Louisiana’s culture, heritage and way of life.

Ask for Louisiana seafood.

America Loves Louisiana Seafood

  • 70% of seafood harvested in the Gulf of Mexico comes from Louisiana.
  • Louisiana provides more shrimp, oysters, blue crabs, crawfish and alligator to your plate than any other state.
  • 1 in 70 Louisiana jobs are tied to the state’s seafood industry.

Louisiana's Proud Fishermen

Our fishermen are dedicated and resilient. They would rather work and go quietly about their lives than ask for your help. They are also the first to lend a helping hand to those less fortunate. They have spent generations providing the world's most talented chefs with one of their key ingredients – Louisiana seafood.

Louisiana fishermen reflect the history and culture of Louisiana. Many of their jobs are in family-owned companies that have worked for generations to catch some of the finest seafood in the world.
